The Diamond Sutra and Engaged Buddhism

Our speaker on Sunday January 10 will be sangha member Leslie Irvine. Leslie has practiced with Prairie Mountain Zen Center for a decade. She is Professor of Sociology and Director of the Animals and Society Certificate Program at the University of Colorado Boulder.

Leslie's talk is titled "Not Relying on Signs: Insights from Thich Nhat Hanh on the Diamond Sutra and Engaged Buddhism". Through a dialog between the historical Buddha and his disciple Subhuti, The Diamond Sutra applies the wisdom of emptiness to the bodhisattva’s vow. Thich Nhat Hanh’s book, The Diamond that Cuts through Illusion, will serve as a guide for this introductory talk.
